I was a big fan of the Hanna-Barbera superhero cartoons of the mid-60's, and my two favorites among those were Space Ghost and The Herculoids. Naturally I picked up the recent 'Space Ghost and Dino Boy: The Complete Series' release on DVD. If you're a fan of Alex Toth, you MUST own this set - the main extra on it is a goodie: a feature-length documentary on the life and career of this extraordinary artist whose influence extends much deeper than I had any idea. He was, as some of you may know, a designer and layout artist for Hanna-Barbera during their 'Jonny Quest/superhero' phase, and was responsible for the character designs for both Space Ghost and Herculoids.
Watching that documentary reawakened my interest in the Herculoids, along with a desire to see Zandor, Tara, Zok and company finally come to DVD sometime in the future. So I decided to try my hand at a rendition of my two favorite characters from the show, Tara and Zok. As I note in the comments, this was only supposed to take a few hours of an afternoon; but as midnight neared and it became obvious that by the time I was done, I'd be too tired to post the thing, I decided to show off what I'd done already as a work in progress (WIP) in my 'scraps' gallery. UPDATE: It's finished! UPDATE AGAIN: Decided to move the WIP version to the main gallery.

01:16 PMPosted by I love seeing player art. While I know fan art is acceptable, I do wonder a bit about copyright in regard to getting paid for images based on Blizzard's intellectual property. I'm a stickler for that sort of thing because I think it's really wrong for artists to rip other artists off, but it can also be wonderful to take inspiration from another artist's work.
